Activating maps

Muckety maps are interactive. After performing a search and choosing from the search results, you'll get a map that shows connections between people and organizations.

To view descriptions of the relations, click anywhere on the map to activate it. When you pass your mouse over connecting lines, you'll see a popup box describing the connections. Solid lines represent current relationships; dotted lines show former relationships.

Rearranging maps

Double-clicking on a box in the map will expand the connections to the person or organization.

You can also re-center a map around one or more players by clicking on the map background and dragging your mouse to draw a temporary box around them. The chosen boxes will be highlighted in pink.

You can then perform one of several functions to redraw your map:

    · Click Edit -> Center to recenter the map around the selected boxes.

    · Click Edit -> Expand to additional relationships of the selected boxes.

    · Click Edit -> Group to place multiple actors in a single grouped box. You'll be asked to name this box.

    · Click Edit -> Delete to remove the selected boxes from the map.

Other pointers for improving map display

In more complicated maps, boxes sometimes overlap. Click View -> Repel to separate them.

You may want to filter your map to show only current relationships, or only particular types of actors. By clicking Tool -> Options, you'll get a popup box that allows you to set these filters.

Searching

We're still in early beta, and there are many improvements planned for search and other functions. The Muckety database doesn't yet include nicknames, so you'll need to enter either an exact match (Richard B. Cheney) or a partial name (Cheney). Typing in Dick Cheney won't give you any results. It's often best to search by last name.

If you want to search for connections between several names, type each into the search box, connected by + signs. For example, the above map was produced by searching for:

    Entourage+Ari Emanuel+Rahm Emanuel

In the list of search results, click each name you'd like to see. If they're connected, they will all display. If they're not, your first selection on the list will be mapped.
