Dr. Jackson was a theoretical physicist at the former AT&T Bell Laboratories from 1976 to 1991, professor of theoretical physics at Rutgers University from 1991 to 1995 and chairman of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission from 1995 until she assumed her current position in 1999.
She is a director of FedEx Corporation, Marathon Oil Corp., Medtronic, Inc., Public Service Enterprise Group Incorporated and NYSE Euronext. She is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Dr. Jackson is past president of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the American Philosophical Society.
