George W. Bush has closed on a $2.1 million home on a quiet Dallas cul-de-sac, where he and his wife plan to settle after leaving the White House, according to The Smoking Gun. The home was purchased by his accountant, Robert A. McCleskey.

And the winner of the drag race from Detroit to the Capitol is. . . General Motors’ chief Rick Wagoner. Good thing for GM, since the financial blog, Clusterstock, had proposed that lawmakers award bailouts to the first- and second-place arrivals.

Oprah Winfrey, who gave candidate Obama a critical boost during the primaries, told Access Hollywood that she’ll be taking her talk show to Washington for the week of Barack Obama’s inauguration.

Today he debuts as a member of the Fourth Estate, writing a twice-a-month column for Slate about finance, regulation and government.
