Biographical information:
Dr. Neal is director, University of Michigan ATLAS Project, Samuel A. Goudsmit Distinguished Professor of Physics, Interim President Emeritus and Vice President for Research Emeritus at the University of Michigan.
He joined the University as chairman of its Physics Department in 1987 and in 1993 was named VP of research. Dr. Neal served as Interim president of the University of Michigan from July 1, 1996 to February 1, 1997.
He has served as a member of the U.S. National Science Board, the Advisory Board of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, as a trustee of the Center for Strategic and International Studies and as a member of the Board of Regents of the Smithsonian Institution.
Dr. Neal currently is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Richard Lounsbery Foundation and a member of the Advisory Board for the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
He is also a member of the Board of Physics and Astronomy of the National Academy of Sciences and a member of the Council of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.
