As the result of the merger of British Petroleum and Amoco effective December 31, 1998, he became co-chairman of BP Amoco. He retired from that position in April 2000.
He is a director of Cabot MicroElectronics Corporation, Verde Group and The Nature Conservancy of South Carolina, and a life trustee of The Orchestral Association and presidential counselor of Cornell University.
