Muckety downExxon's influence took a definite upturn when its CEO, Rex Tillerson, was named secretary of state in 2017. The company's reputation was tarnished less than six months later, when Treasury fined it $2 million for violating Russian sanctions in 2014, when Tillerson was at the helm.
