Barry M. Goldwater
Goldwater's name was ascendant in 2017 because of the "Goldwater Rule," a guideline for members of the American Psychiatric Association. The rule was established in 1964, after Fact magazine published a survey quoting psychiatrists as saying Barry Goldwater was unfit to be president. He sued, and APA members were then prohibited from offering diagnoses without consent and an examination of the public figure.
Political office: Goldwater served in the U.S. Senate as a Republican from AZ.
